London’s storytelling club

At Spark London you will hear personal stories told not by professional storytellers but by anyone who has a great story to share. But there are three conditions: it must be true, it must be your own story and it must be under five minutes long.

With a different theme each time, you soon find yourself talking to friends and strangers about moments from their lives. Spark aims to build bonds through stories and holds regular events at the Hackney Picturehouse and Upstairs at the Ritzy.  74-year-old comic Julie Kertesz, who gave up her previous career aged 60, is among the storytellers. You can also subscribe to their award-winning podcast.
Spark London was founded in 2007 by Joanna Yates, a business psychologist who overcame dyslexia to become an expert on the art of storytelling. Since then, thousands of true stories have been told live from Spark stages at the Edinburgh Festival, Foyles, the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Manchester Town Hall, Soho Square, and the Blue Elephant Theatre.
