London’s first all vegan Chinese food spot in Hackney

Mao Chow

After a successful pop up at Dalston cocktail bar, Pamela, Mao Chow moved into permanent digs. Located on Mare Street just off London Fields, the space is pretty tiny, with just 12 seats for guests to sit up at the noodle bar.

Mao Chow is London’s first all vegan Chinese spot, a bold move for a cuisine so heavily associated with pork and other meats. But this being Hackney in 2019 we think it should go down very well and, if reports from the Pamela residency is anything to go by, the food is very well rated.

On the menu:

  • Smacked Cucumber Salad with Black Vinegar, Sesame Oil and Crushed Garlic
  • Oyster Mushroom Bing – Sesame Flatbread Sandwich with Cumin Grilled Oyster Mushrooms
  • Chongqing Noodles in a Spicy Aromatic Sauce with Chickpeas and Veg
